Can an image sitemap contain CDN image URLs?

The extractor accepts HTTP(S) image locations even when they use a different origin from the containing page. This accommodates sites that serve media through a CDN or separate image host.

The tool does not fetch or validate each image. Check that the chosen image addresses are public and durable, and review the requirements of the crawler that will consume your sitemap, including any verification needed for other hosts.
