Does a sitemap contain the text of my pages?

No. A page sitemap lists locations, not the text of your articles or products. An image sitemap adds image locations associated with each containing page.

The crawler temporarily reads HTML to discover links and image attributes. The downloaded XML contains the selected URL entries rather than copies of that HTML. A sitemap is therefore not a backup, archive or website migration package.
